GE Spacemaker Microwave

Bob -- Friday, 24 January 2003, at 9:29 p.m.

My GE Spacemaker Microwave oven suddenly quit.
It runs and sounds normal, but it does not heat.

One day it was working fine and the next day...nothing??

Is there a fuse inside that might have blown? The oven is only 4 years old and was very expensive!

Any advice?

Usually if the internal fuse had blown, the microwave part would stop working all together.

The problem could be in a number of different areas but one of the circuit boards might be the cause. Check your warranty papers to see if they might still be covered. The Magnetron tube should be if that is the cause and if under 5 years old.

Sorry, this same thing happened to me a few months ago with my 4 year old Spacemaker. It was the magnatron? - the part that generates the heat and makes it a microwave. This part is under warranty, but GOOD LUCK trying to get someone (GE) to come out in a timely manner. Besides, the PART is covered under the warranty, but NOT the LABOR ($200 and up)! I found a local appliance repairman who did the work (including the part) for $200. Hope this helps.

Many of the GE 'Spacemaker' (OTR) microwaves need a repair "kit" to correct magnetron tube failures. The models covered are JVM1630, JVM1631, JVM1640, JVM1642, JVM1650, JVM1651, JVM1660 and JVM1661.

You can see the repair kit (which should come with instructions) at the link below.

JFYI
