Tappan - remove range top

Phil S. -- Tuesday, 20 February 2001, at 3:29 p.m.

Tappan gas range 30-3982 w/sealed burners:

My front panel ("manifold cover") rusted so I bought a new one. To install it, I need to remove the range top. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get this off. There are no visible screws or latches, and virtually no 'give' when I try to budge it a bit.

Any ideas?

I'm afraid not, sealed burner models can be a real pain that way. Tappan is made and owned by Frigidaire. I suggest you call one of their local parts or service depots (see the link below) and ask if they can offer any suggestions.

I found the solution! After probing around the gap between the top and the base with a flexible ruler, I found that there are two latches, one on each *side* near the front.

These are about 1.5" back from the front of the unit. I inserted a small screwdriver between the two screwheads and pushed with about 5-lbs of force. There was a noticeable 'click' and voila!

Thanks for the follow up and the tip. Hopefully others will find it and make use of it.
